환변동보험의 비대칭효과에 대한 실증분석
본 연구는 환변동보험이 우리나라 수출에 미치는 영향에 있어 비대칭효과가 존재하는지를 규명하기 위한 실증분석이다. 환위험의 헤지 수단으로써 환변동보험은 환율 변동에 따른 환위험을 분산시켜 환율변동성이 수출에 미치는 부정적인 영향을 완화시키는 매개역할을 한다. 여기서 비대칭효과란 환율이 상승할 경우와 하락할 경우에 환율변동성이 수출에 미치는 영향이 비대칭적으로 작용하며 이에 따라 환변동보험의 효과도 비대칭적으로 나타나는 현상을 의미한다. 수출수요함수에 대한 기본적인 연구모형을 바탕으로 조건부이분산모형으로 추정된 환율변동성과 비대칭효과를 파악하기 위한 가변수(더미변수)를 설명변수에 추가하여 계량분석모형을 설정하였다, 계량분석모형을 바탕으로 2000년부터 2016년까지의 월별자료를 사용하여 설명변수와 종속변수의 시계열특성을 고려한 선형-로그 형태의 회귀방정식을 추정하였다. 실증분석결과 소득효과와 가격효과는 우리나라 수출액에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 환율변동성의 확대는 우리나라 수출에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 추정되며, 이러한 과정에서 환변동보험이 이러한 부정적인 영향을 완화시키는 매개변수의 역할을 할 수 있으며, 특히 환율이 상승하는 경우와 하락하는 경우에 비대칭효과의 발생가능성도 확인되었다. 이러한 분석결과는 최근과 같이 환율 변화의 방향이 급변하는 경우, 비대칭효과의 발생 가능성이 높기 때문에 정책당국은 환율의 동향을 주의 깊게 관찰하여 환율이 상승하는 시기와 하락하는 시기에 차별적인 정책적 대응이 필요하다는 점을 시사한다.

An Empirical Analysis on the Asymmetric Effect of Foreign Exchange Risk Insurance
This paper investigates the empirical evidence for the asymmetric effect of foreign exchange risk insurance in the influence of economic variables on Korea exports. Using monthly data on Korea exports from 2000 to 2016, the effects of income, price, exchange risk, and the asymmetric effect of foreign exchange risk insurance on the volume of export were examined. Empirical results show that income effect, the price effect, and the negative effect of exchange rate volatility are significant on Korea exports. More importantly, they have provided the evidence for the asymmetry in the role of foreign exchange risk insurance on the effect of exchange rate volatility as exchange rate appreciates or depreciates. The results found in the paper have an implication for the policy authority to consider the role of foreign exchange risk insurance in the effect of exchange rate volatility on Korea exports differently between appreciations and depreciations of exchange rates.
